Day 6 (March 11, 2025): Apia - the Capital
Parliament
Government building adjacent to Parliament
Apia only has a few office ‘towers’. This one houses government offices. Can you imagine, in the heat and humidity of this place, this office tower is not air-conditioned! Individual offices have air conditioning units in the windows, but apart from that, the building isn’t equipped with central AC.
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
They is the immaculate conception as an incredible wooden ceiling and a cupola depicting The Last Supper.
Samoa cultural Centee
At the Samoa Cultural Center, we had to make a ‘plate’ out of a palm branch. True confessions: mine flopped, so the helper made that one for me.
Each of the women in the audience had to make a palm headpiece.
Fish market. Tuna, snapper and lobster.
Town clock
Chaotic bus terminal
The market
Taro root. A major production item for Samoa.
Vendor selling taco root on the side of the highway
Tavo crop
A wonderful lunch was had at Nourish Cafe: Pam had crepes and I had pad Thai.
The dangers of coconuts: for starters, coconuts are heavy. And if they fall from waaaay up there and hit your car — or worse, if they hit you — they will do much damage.
Our last sunset in Samoa:
